Obituaries, Cemetery & Funeral Home Microfilm Records

SVGS has collected over 170,000 obituaries and death notices from regional newspapers serving southeastern South Dakota, southwest Minnesota and northwest Iowa. We also have many funeral programs or brochures for individuals generously donated to us. Check the obituary index below to search for your family member.

We also have available microfilm cemetery records from the Hills of Rest, Mount Pleasant, Berg Cemetery, and St. Michael’s in Sioux Falls, Graceland in Madison, Chancellor Baptist in Chancellor, First Baptist Church of Germantown Cemetery in Lennox, Summit Hill in Valley Springs, Dell Rapids Cemetery and St. Mary’s Parish in Dell Rapids, Pleasant Ridge in Armour, and Mitchell area cemeteries.

Microfilm records from funeral homes include Miller, George Boom and Barnett-Lewis Funeral Homes in Sioux Falls, Weiland Funeral Chapel and Ellsworth Funeral Home in Madison, Kaler Funeral Home in Dell Rapids, and Cool Funeral Home in Platte.

Various files in the SVGS Library that may contain obituaries include Pioneer Certificate Applications and Correspondence Files.

The obituaries can be viewed in the SVGS Library during regular hours or by appointment.

We are located in the Old Courthouse Museum, 2nd floor, 200 W. 6th Street.
The library is open Tuesday thru Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
